The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for an alleged burglary on Tuesday afternoon.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said a witness said they had gone to a friend’s house on Lou Gray Drive in the Myrtle Creek area to borrow some tools and discovered the 28-year suspect inside the house eating. The report said the suspect is unknown to the witness or the homeowner. He left on foot after the witness grabbed an axe and told him he was going to give him a chance to leave.

The report said the witness followed the suspect on foot until a deputy arrived and detained the man, identified as Ryan Whitaker. The man was possibly under the influence and possibly suffering from mental health concerns. He admitted that he had been in the house eating food.

Whitaker was charged with second-degree counts of burglary and trespass and for a third-degree county of theft.

After arraignment, bail was set at $15,000.
