A Portland man was hurt when the vehicle he was driving rolled on Interstate Five on Monday afternoon.

A report from Oregon State Police said at about 1:10 p.m. the accident happened when the southbound driver lost control after leaving the left-hand shoulder of the road. The report said the driver attempted to regain control. The vehicle veered back across both lanes of travel, rolled, struck a guardrail and came to rest on its top approximately 40 feet off the roadway.

The driver told a trooper that he was distracted by a loose dog in the vehicle, prior to the wreck. The 24-year old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield. The vehicle had to be towed from the accident scene. The driver was issued a warning for failure to drive within a lane.
