Officials with the Oregon Department of Forestry have released their weekly report on the major fires in the state.
Just after Labor Day, ODF started tracking 17 fires classified as “major”. Recent rain across much of the state have resulted in the fire danger levels decreasing.
Along with the Archie Creek Fire in Douglas County, other major fires include:
*Lionshead, 20 miles west of Warm Springs has burned in over 204,000 acres and is 46 percent contained
*Beachie Creek, 15 miles north of Detroit, has burned nearly 194,000 acres and is 72 percent contained
*Holiday Farm, 3 miles west of McKenzie Bridge, has burned over 173,000 acres and is 96 percent contained
*Riverside, 2 miles southeast of Estacada, has burned over 138,000 acres and is 61 percent contained
*Slater, 6 miles southeast of Cave Junction has burned in over 44,500 acres and is 75 percent contained
The ODF release said this fire season there have been over 2,000 fires across all jurisdictions and they have burned over 1.2 million acres. On ODF -protected lands there have been over 900 fires, and over 550,000 acres have burned.
