A downed powerline sparked a fire that burned three acres of grass south of Yoncalla on Wednesday afternoon.

Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews from DFPA and from North Douglas County Fire and EMS arrived on the scene shortly after 4:15 p.m. The fire was located near the 7,000 block of Rice Valley Road. Reed said strong winds fanned the flames and pushed the Rice Valley Road Fire through a mowed field. Several nearby structures were threatened by the fire, but no damage was reported.

Crews remained on the scene until 6:15 p.m.
