MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT AVAILABLE

Wildfires in Douglas County and statewide are creating stress and concern for many people and communities.

That’s the word from Compass Behavioral Health.

Cherie Barnstable, Behavioral Health Clinical Director for Compass, said the organization continues to offer routine and crisis mental health support via walk-in, phone and telehealth services and supports for those who may be experiencing emotional distress. Barnstable said emotional distress is often experienced prior to, during and after a natural disaster, and can impact an individual’s overall wellbeing.

A Compass release said emotional distress can be heightened during evacuations due to the uncertainty of being displaced, loss of home and belongings, and concern about the safety of loved ones. Signs of emotional distress include:

*Feeling of being overwhelmed, confused, anxious, angry or fearful

*Inability to sleep or eat

*Increased symptoms for those with a pre-existing mental health condition

Barnstable said residents or loved ones that are experiencing signs of emotional distress, can reach out to Compass Health in person or by phone. Compass is at 621 West Madrone in Roseburg. Call 440-3532 or go to www.compassoregon.org.
