Roseburg Mayor Larry Rich has proclaimed this Friday, September 4th as “Dan Bain Day” in Roseburg.
That announcement came at the start of the Roseburg City Council work study session regarding unhoused individuals on Monday night.
Dan Bain came to the meeting, thinking it was his last reporting assignment before retiring from the News Review. Little did he know his wife and other family members were hidden from view in city offices, waiting for the meeting to begin.
Mayor Rich started the session explaining how public comment would be taken, and then noted that it was a special day for the longtime member of local media:
The mayor read the proclamation as a very surprised Bain realized what was going on:
Rich presented Bain with a framed copy of the proclamation as those in attendance gave the veteran news man a standing ovation

Bain shared his reaction with News Radio 1240 KQEN:
Residents are urged to find a creative way to honor Dan Bain this Friday.
