Mercy Foundation has received a grant of $85,000 from the Waldon W. and Jean Young Shaw Foundation for Mercy Health’s Shaw Heart and Vascular Center.

A release said the funds will be used to upgrade the cardiac catherization labs at Mercy Medical Center. The cost of the new cath labs comes with a significant price tag of approximately $3 million dollars. The release said with the help of funders like the Shaw Foundation and others, almost 70 percent of the funding has been raised.

Cath labs are used to diagnose and treat a range of cardiovascular diseases and conditions, ranging from heart attacks to blocked coronary and peripheral arteries.

Mercy Foundation President Lisa Platt said “The Walden W. and Jean Young Shaw Foundation has been an amazing partner over the years”. She said their financial support has helped ensure that local residents have access to excellent heart center equipment and services needed in the community.
