HEAT ADVISORY TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY

August 31, 2020 4:20 a.m.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for central Douglas County from 2:00 p.m. Tuesday until 11:00 p.m. Thursday.

High temperatures of 95 to 105 degrees are expected with warm overnight low temperatures up to 65 degrees.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said the combination of warm overnight temperatures, and dry conditions will make it difficult to stay hydrated and cool. The temperatures will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, especially for those working outside and for those who lack adequate cooling resources.

Forecasters said the hot temperatures will potentially continue through Labor Day weekend. The possible long duration nature of this could affect even those who are not normally impacted by heat stress.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on neighbors and friends. Those who work outside should take extra precautions. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in a shady or air-conditioned environment.
