Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and local fire departments responded to three fires over the weekend.
Fire Prevention Officer Kyle Reed said firefighters from DFPA, the Tiller Rural Fire Department and the Milo Rural Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Saturday night. The fire was located approximately one mile west of Tiller, near milepost 25 of the Tiller-Trail Highway, between the road and the South Umpqua River. The fire destroyed the vehicle and burned 1/100th of an acre of wildland fuels.
Crews from DFPA, the Winston Dillard Fire Department and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to a grass fire Sunday afternoon, approximately 1 mile-northeast of Winston near the intersection of Old Highway 99 South and Grange Road. Fire fighters arrived on the scene around 3:00 p.m. and reported a grass fire moving at a moderate rate of speed. Reed said the fire was surrounded on three sides, which helped fire crews quickly contain the fire spread. The Old Highway 99 South Fire burned a quarter of an acre of grass. Crews remained on the scene until 3:30 p.m. mopping up the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Sunday night at 5:30 p.m. DFPA fire fighters along with crews from fire departments in Sutherlin and Oakland, responded to a fire near the Sutherlin rodeo grounds. A slow-moving fire burning in grass and brush was discovered. Reed said it had the potential to threaten several nearby structures. Firefighters stopped the forward spread of the Rodeo Fire at a quarter of an acre of wildland fuels. They remained on the scene for about an hour. The cause of the Rodeo Fire is under investigation.
Fire danger remains extreme on lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association.
