Fire fighters with the Tiller Ranger District are working to extinguish a three quarters of an acre fire between Buckeye Lake and Jackson Creek within the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness.
Mark Turney with the Umpqua National Forest said a smoke report was received late in the day on Tuesday and a crew was sent to investigate. Turney said a smoldering fire was located and the initial attack began. The incident commander asked for additional help Wednesday morning.
Turney said it is believed that the fire was started by a single lightening strike. UNF staff is preparing for potential lightening events later this week.
The Northwest Fire Potential Summary said a warming and drying trend is forecast to start early next week. The fire danger level remains very high with Public Use Restriction 1 remaining in effect.
