An Oakland man has been jailed for online sex crimes involving a child.

Detective Kevin Taggart of the Myrtle Creek Police said on July 30th an online social media conversation started between 34-year old Douglas Palmer and a person he believed to be a juvenile female. Taggart said during the course of that conversation, Palmer agreed to pick up the juvenile female and take her somewhere to engage in sexual intercourse. At 10:45 p.m. on Monday, Palmer arrived at an undisclosed location to meet the girl. He was met instead by Myrtle Creek Police.

Taggart said Palmer was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with first and second degree counts of online sexual corruption of a child. Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted Myrtle Creek Police with the arrest.

After arraignment, Palmer is being held on $15,000 bail. The case is ongoing and more charges are pending.

Taggart said Myrtle Creek Police would like to remind parents to monitor their children’s social media accounts. He said parents should have conversations with their children regarding sexual predators and the dangers of the online world.
