A Days Creek man was jailed on the charge of second-degree assault, after an incident on Sunday afternoon.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a report at about 1:45 p.m.
A deputy contacted the victim at a residence on Bradley Drive. The victim had bruising all over her body and said a man got mad because she was texting another man, and started slapping her. The victim claimed she was slapped about 20 times, and was shoved down to the ground. She said the suspect took a hammer and a shower curtain rod and hit her multiple times with both. The victim said she didn’t want to say who the man was.
Later in the day the victim called dispatch and said she wanted to talk to a Myrtle Creek officer about civil issues. The woman was with 26-year old Cory Schofield at the Dollar General store.
When contacted the suspect said he and the victim had been dating for a few months. The man denied there had been a physical disturbance, but said the civil issue involving the other man was causing a lot of frustration.
Schofield was detained on $300,000 bail.
