SEARCH AND RESCUE VOLUNTEERS WANTED

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking members of the community who are willing to volunteer their time to the Search and Rescue Division.

DCSO is responsible for searching for lost and missing people within the 5,000 square miles of the county.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell said they are looking for motivated people will to give their time to the community. O’Dell said Search and Rescue is not exclusive to any particular type of person or skill set. He said they need people capable of physical tasks ranging from wilderness searching to technical rope rescues, to those who could help by preparing meals for search crews. Also needed are people who could help maintain equipment for searchers in the field. Training is provided at no cost.

Search and Rescue includes:

*Mountain Rescue

*Mounted Searchers on horseback

*Dive Team using SCUBA gear

*Ground SAR searching land of all types

*4×4 drivers

*Logistics people who help support the SAR operations

*K9 Search Team with people who have trained dogs
