EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING CONTINUES THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT

August 16, 2020 6:45 a.m.

An Excessive Heat Warning continues through Sunday night in central Douglas County.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said dangerously hot conditions are expected during the afternoon to early evening hours with daytime highs as high as 102 degrees.

The Warning said extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities, or with pre-existing health conditions.

The combination of warm overnight temperatures, very hot temperatures with strong solar radiation, and dry conditions will make it difficult to stay hydrated and cool. Residents should drink plenty of fluids, take breaks in the shade, wear sunscreen, and take precautions if venturing into cold water or rushing waters, by wearing a life jacket.

The Excessive Heat Warning is in place until 11:00 p.m.
