EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING FOR THIS WEEKEND

August 13, 2020 3:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for this weekend for central Douglas County and much of the surrounding area.

Forecasters said dangerously hot conditions are forecast, with daytime high temperatures of up to 109 degrees expected. Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working outside, or participating in other outdoor activities.

The Warning said the combination of warm overnight temperatures, very hot temperatures with strong solar radiation and dry conditions will make it difficult to stay hydrated and cool. Residents should drink plenty of fluids, take breaks in the shade, wear sunscreen and take precautions if venturing into cold water or rushing water by wearing a life jacket.

Forecasters said those who work or spend time outside should try to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning, or in the evening. People should know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
