A timber group has announced its college scholarship winners for 2020-21.
The Douglas Timber Operators has given out $2500 scholarships to Ashley Backen, Justin Helgren and Colton Fuller.
Backen, from Roseburg, has completed her studies at Umpqua Community College. This fall she will start her senior year at the College of Forestry at Oregon State University. She has worked as a summer intern at both Roseburg Forest Products and Lone Rock Resources.
Helgren, from Umpqua, is currently studying at UCC where he is the forestry club president. He plans to transfer to the College of Forestry at OSU this fall. He has worked for Mountain Western Log Scaling and Grading Bureau.
Fuller, from Days Creek, is currently attending the College of Forestry at OSU. He has worked as an intern at Lone Rock Resources and as a wildland firefighter for the Douglas Forest Protective Association.
$500 scholarships were awarded to Angus Kjos, Jacob Payne and Ellie Kenagy.
Kjos, from Tenmile, is attending the College of Forestry at OSU. He has worked as an intern at Lone Rock Resources.
Payne, from Camas Valley, has completed his studies at UCC and will transfer to the College of Forestry at OSU. He has worked as an intern for Douglas County Forest Products and for the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians.
Kenagy, from Oakland, begins her college education at OSU this fall pursuing either a degree in Agricultural Business or Agricultural Communications.
Their release said DTO is “..proud to support these outstanding students and look forward to watching them all achieve their goals for the future”.
