TREE INTO POWER LINE SPARKS WILDFIRE

A tree into a power line sparked a wildfire eight miles south of Elkton early Monday morning.

Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews responded at around 3:45 am. to the Hutchison Wayside Fire. Reed said it was located between Highway 138 West and Kellogg Camp Lane. He said a response from the power company was required to de-energize power lines before firefighters could fully contain the fire.

Reed said the fire burned a quarter acre of wildland fuels before the forward spread of the fire was stopped. Crews remained on the scene until 10:30 a.m.
