Starting Monday all areas within the boundaries of the Umpqua National Forest will enter Industrial Fire Precaution Level 2 with a range of moderate fire danger.
An update from Mark Turney with the Forest Service said that level, also called “partial hoot-owl”, prohibits blasting, welding, cable yarding or the use of power saws except at loading sites, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Turney said the restrictions apply to all contractors and permit holders working on the forest, including those with permits to cut personal-use firewood.
Turney said while the IFPL level doesn’t apply to recreation users, visitors are encouraged to be cautious with fires while outdoors. He said all campers need to completely extinguish campfires before going to sleep or leaving the campsite.
