MAYOR, MOST COUNCILORS RUNNING FOR REELECTION

July 20, 2020 3:30 a.m.

Roseburg’s mayor and most city councilors whose terms are ending, are running for reelection, but the plans of one councilor are not yet known.

Information from City Recorder Amy Sowa said Councilor Sheila Cox has completed all the paperwork to run again. Sowa said Mayor Larry Rich, and councilors Andrea Zielinski, and Brian Prawitz have both turned in their initial paperwork and are in the process of gathering signatures to run. Councilor Linda Fisher-Fowler told News Radio 1240 KQEN she plans to turn in her paperwork this week. Councilor Ashley Hicks has not responded to inquiries from KQEN regarding her plans.

If Hicks does run, she will have a challenge from Patrice Sipos, who has completed all the paperwork to run for Hick’s Ward 4 seat. Fisher-Fowler will also have a challenger. Patrick Lewandowski has completed all the requirements to get his name on the ballot for that seat, as well.

All terms are for four years, except for Cox’s Ward 2 position. Cox was appointed in February to hold the seat for the rest of the year, after former councilor Tom Ryan, who was also the council president, resigned as he prepared to travel in retirement.

Those wanting to run for the council must complete the process to get on the ballot by August 25th. The 2020 General Election will be on November 3rd.
