The Oregon Liquor Control Commission has launched an internal investigation after an employee in its Roseburg office was cited for theft in the second degree by the Oregon State Police.
OLCC spokesperson Mark Pettinger said an audit discovered that cash was missing from license payments made-in-person at the local office. He said OSP released the employee to appear in court in lieu of custody.
Pettinger said after the discrepancy of the missing $250 was discovered in late March, 2020, OSP conducted a criminal investigation. He said that is standard procedure for state agencies to follow when employee criminal conduct is suspected.
Now that the criminal investigation is completed the OLCC will review and correct any procedures that allowed the alleged theft to take place, according to Pettinger.
The Roseburg OLCC office, located in the Douglas County Courthouse, remains open with no disruption in service.
