MAN JAILED AFTER ALLEGEDLY TRYING TO ELUDE POLICE

A Sutherlin man was jailed after allegedly trying the elude police, on Sunday.

A report from Sutherlin Police said at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday, an officer tried to stop 28-year old Christopher Smith for a traffic violation near the corner of West Central and South Calapooia. The man reportedly eluded pursuit, and it was eventually terminated. The report said he was later spotted driving without his lights on.

Smith crashed in the 200 block of Eddy Street. He declined medical attention and reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .17 percent. He was initially held for attempting to elude police, reckless driving, driving while suspended or revoked, and for DUII.

Bail was set at $62,500. Smith was released from custody later on Sunday.
