A Sutherlin man has been jailed on sex abuse and child porn charges.

Captain Kurt Sorenson of the Sutherlin Police said 35-year old Cory Bernhardt was detained Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the 800 block of West Central.

Sorenson said pursuant to a lengthy investigation between Sutherlin PD, the Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force, Bernhardt was charged with first degree counts of sodomy, sex abuse, unlawful sexual penetration, encouraging child sex abuse and for possession of materials depicting sexually explicit conduct of a child. Bail was initially set at $1.2 million.

Sorenson said it is believed that Bernhardt’s crimes were not associated with the business he owned and operated in Sutherlin.

The SPD release said the crimes were allegedly committed over a lengthy period of time and there may be more victims. Anyone with information or alleged reports regarding Bernhardt is asked to call the Sutherlin Police Department at 459-2211.
