Staff with the Umpqua National Forest has announced that Gabe Wishart has been selected to be the District Ranger for the Tiller Ranger District, effective July 20th.

Mark Turney said Wishart previously served as the Director of the Wolf Creek Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center for the past two years. Kathy Minor, the former District Ranger, accepted a new job with another forest last year.

Umpqua National Forest Supervisor Alice Carlton said Wishart “brings with him tremendous leadership experience and skills that he gained as a fire fighter and through his work at Wolf Creek Job Corp Center”. She said that his leadership and commitment to considering the viewpoints of others will help strengthen and “further advance the important work occurring on the Tiller District”.

Turney said Wishart’s career began as a seasonal firefighter on the Wallowa Whitman National Forest in 2000. He said Wishart has been with the Forest Service for over 20 years and has extensive fire management experience. The release said he had over a decade of experience working for the Hotshot and Smokejumper organizations before moving to work at Wolf Creek.

Wishart said he is looking forward to serving in the new role.
