FRIDAY HOLIDAY CLOSURES AND DETAILS

July 3, 2020 3:50 a.m.

With July 4th being on Saturday, most federal, state, county and city government offices will not be open Friday in observance of Independence Day.

No regular mail will be delivered Friday. Most banks and credit unions will be open. The stock market is closed.

For Douglas County government, the landfill and transfer stations that are normally open on Fridays, will be open. However, they will close on Saturday. The Douglas County Museum in Roseburg will be open both days and will be closed on Sunday as usual. The Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum, in Winchester Bay, will be open for visitors all three days, during normal operating hours. All county parks, campgrounds and boat ramps will remain open and accessible for the entire weekend.

Information from the Douglas County Board of Commissioners said the Fourth of July, also known as American Independence Day, has been a federal holiday since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day goes back to the 18th century with the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later, delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence.
