TRAVELERS INTO CALIFORNIA SHOULD EXPECT LONG DELAYS

Independence Day weekend travelers headed into California should expect long delays in one area.

Dan Latham of the Oregon Department of Transportation said Caltrans has advised Interstate Five motorists to expect delays of up to four hours and backups of up to 20 miles at peak travel times, due to construction near Dunsmuir, about 70 miles south of the Oregon border. Latham said in this work zone, traffic will be limited to a single lane in each direction.

Information from Caltrans said motorists are advised to choose alternate travel times or use alternate routes during peak days if possible. Latham said motorists should avoid traveling northbound all-day Friday and southbound on Sunday, as those are the peak days of travel.
