Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 dealt with a fire near Interstate Five northbound, south of Roseburg on Wednesday afternoon.
Kyle Reed of DFPA said firefighters from both agencies responded at about 4:15 p.m. to the fire about a mile north of Roberts Mountain.

Reed said the slow-moving grass fire was quickly suppressed. Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour, mopping up hot spots and securing control lines. He said even after a significant rainfall event, dead grass is consumable by fire within an hour or two of sunny conditions returning to the area. Reed said “the Milepost 118 Fire serves as a great example of how fast conditions can change even after several days of rain”.
The fire burned about 1/10th of an acre of grass. A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the cause of the fire was most likely vehicle related.
