MAN JAILED FOR THEFT AFTER ALLEGEDLY RUNNING FROM POLICE

A Roseburg man was jailed for theft after allegedly running from police on Sunday afternoon.
Information from Roseburg Police said at about 1:00 p.m. 32-year old Christopher Carpenter was contacted in the 2100 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway because he matched the description of a suspect in a theft that had taken place at Walmart. The man fled on foot, running through four lanes of traffic, despite an officer yelling at him to stop.
The report said he was caught and taken to the ground. He allegedly gave a false name before admitting to his true identity. Charges included third degree theft, providing false information to a police officer, interfering with a police officer, parole violation and for a warrant.
Carpenter was detained without bail.
