The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has a newly certified patrol K9 team on duty.
A DCSO release said in September of 2019, the office received an anonymous donation from a member of the community which allowed for the purchase of a third patrol K9. After an extensive process, DCSO selected K9 Ozzy, a three-year old German Shepherd to join the team. Ozzy was paired with Deputy Daniel Barden and the two completed their certification and training program as prescribed by the Oregon Police Canine Association. The team began patrolling last Sunday.
Deputy Barden said he is really exited about the opportunity to serve with K9 Ozzy. Barden said, “he is already proving to be a great partner”. Barden said the pair look forward to meeting with community members and being a resource in Douglas County.
The Sheriff’s Office K9 program is supported by private donations, Friends of Umpqua Valley Police K9 programs and various businesses in the community.
Sheriff John Hanlin said DCSO is grateful for the support it receives from the community which allows for a successful K9 program.
K9 Ozzy joins K9 Grim and K9 Zoro in the patrol division.
