Investigators have released additional details regarding the shooting in Sutherlin Saturday, which left one person deceased and one injured.
An update from the Douglas County Major Crimes Team said 39-year old Roseburg resident Nicholas Jermaine Holloway went to the Relax Inn on West Central just before 1:45 p.m. and confronted his estranged wife, 34-year old Carolina Montano Barragan, also of Roseburg. Holloway opened fire on Barragan with a handgun, striking her multiple times. Investigators say Holloway then turned the gun on himself in the parking lot of the motel.
When emergency responders arrived, Barragan was alive and was transported to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment. She is currently in stable condition and is expected to survive. Holloway was declared deceased at the scene.
The investigation is being led by the Sutherlin Police with assistance from the Major Crimes Team. The completed investigation will be forwarded to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.
