The Roseburg Hometown 4th of July Fireworks Committee has announced that there will be a fireworks show this year.
Instead of being held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, the display will be launched from Reservoir Hill off of Northeast Stephens Street. Committee chairman Rob Thomas said that location should be visible from much of Roseburg, along with parts of Green and Winchester.
Thomas said the show will begin at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday July 4th. He said part of the plan is to include some bigger shells so the display gets higher than usual, making the fireworks viewable over a wider area.
Due to COVID-19, there is no other event to go with the show this year. Reservoir Hill will be closed to spectators for both safety and social distancing reasons. A soundtrack to go with the show will play on News Radio 1240 KQEN.
A number of businesses and others have stepped up to help fund the show including the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians. Thomas told News Radio 1240 KQEN that the Tribe has been the largest contributor financially, and owns the land the show is being launched from.
Contributions are still being accepted. Contact the committee at: roseburghometownfireworks@gmail.com, or through a link on the organization’s Facebook page.
