The Douglas County St. Vincent de Paul Society will be offering food baskets for those in need on Thursday.
President Mike Reese told News Radio 1240 KQEN that food boxes will be available in the main parking lot of St. Joseph Catholic Church starting at 3:30 p.m. He said the baskets will be available until all of them are gone. The boxes will include perishable food like milk, eggs, and butter and will weigh approximately 20 pounds. Reese said those wanting a food box can simply open their trunk or hatch and volunteers will put the food inside the vehicle.
Reese said food boxes will also be available at St. Francis Parish in Sutherlin beginning at 3:00 p.m. In Myrtle Creek, boxes will be available on Friday starting at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot of the St. Vincent de Paul store on Main Street.
The boxes are provided due to a grant that the Catholic Church in Oregon received to help the less fortunate in western Oregon.
Reese said the goal of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is to serve the poor and disadvantaged by providing emergency assistance for utilities, household and personal items, along with giving comfort and spiritual guidance.
The local St. Vincent de Paul Society is located at St. Joseph Catholic Church and is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
