An SUV hit a paving company vehicle on Interstate Five southbound on Tuesday night.
A report from Oregon State Police said at 7:15 p.m. the SUV was in the left lane near the Winchester exit approaching an area that was reduced to one lane due to construction work taking place. An Oregon Mainline Paving vehicle was parked in the left lane with its arrow board directing traffic into the right lane as flaggers were moving orange barrels in order to block the lane.
The driver of the SUV failed to see the construction vehicle in time and collided with its bumper. The report said that at the same a semitruck was in the right lane giving the motorist little to no room to avoid a collision. The driver of the SUV, an 84-year old man from Eagle Point, was taken to Mercy Medical Center to be checked out. The other occupants refused medical attention. No one was in the paving company vehicle when the wreck took place.
The Oregon Department of Transportation dealt with the traffic situation until the accident was cleaned up.
