Election day is here but so far just under 33 percent of registered voters have cast a ballot in the county.
Douglas County Clerk Dan Loomis told News Radio 1240 KQEN that 27,139 ballots were returned as of Monday afternoon. While that’s over 5.5 percent ahead of the same time in the 2018 election cycle, it is about 7.5 percent behind the participation rate in the May 2016 presidential election.
Loomis said nearly 5,000 ballots came in on Monday. He said historically in a May election, 10 to 13 percent of ballots are returned on the final day.
Ballots are due back by 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night. Voters can utilize one of the 13 election drop site to turn their ballot in. The list of locations is posted with this story at www.541radio.com: http://www.co.douglas.or.us/clerk/elections.asp
