COUNTY OPERATED CAMPGROUNDS OFFER ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

May 19, 2020 3:50 a.m.
Campgrounds operated by the Douglas County Parks Department are now offering additional recreational opportunities.
A release from the Board of Commissioners said tent camping, non-self-contained recreational units and some cabin and yurt use are now allowed. Residents are encouraged to follow the limited use restrictions, as well as CDC guidelines for physical distancing, sanitation and personal health.
Board Chair Chris Boice said the commissioners understand the role outdoor recreational sites provide in keeping residents mentally and physically healthy. He said parks do have the capacity to allow people to get out and rejuvenate, while remaining dispersed.
The release said the changes apply only to parks operated by the county, and not state, federal or privately operated parks and campgrounds that are inside the county.
The additional recreational opportunities are available at these county park campgrounds:
*Charles V. Stanton
*Chief Miwaleta
*John P. Amacher
*Mildred Kanipe
*Pass Creek
*Whistler’s Bend
Campgrounds are available only to Oregonians and each campsite is limited to 8 individuals. Picnic tables and other campground amenities will not be sanitized so residents should take necessary precautions. Restrooms and showers are open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. only. Wearing masks is recommended.
Those using the parks and campgrounds should bring their own soap, disinfectant wipes or sanitizer.
