Residents of the City of Roseburg are reminded to maintain proper vegetation height.
Communications Specialist Eric Johnson said with spring nearly over and the summer season just around the corner, now is the perfect time to catch up on yard work.
Johnson said City rules require property owners to maintain all grasses and weeds to be no more than a maximum height of 12 inches. He said as temperatures rise, and as subsequent rainfall diminishes, the chance of fire danger due to high vegetation can increase. Johnson said that is why it is important to mow lawns, remove weeds and trim down other vegetation for everyone’s safety.
Community Development Director Stuart Cowie said “tall grasses and weeds are not only a fire danger, but they are also difficult to remove once overgrown”.
The release said the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many residents to stay home. Some people have rediscovered the therapeutic advantages of gardening and lawn care. Tips and recommendations for keeping a lawn pristine include:
*Mow at the right height. In the summer, adjust the mower height to leave grass slightly taller.
*Water the lawn properly. For healthy grass, water grass deeply and infrequently.
*Be sure to pickup dog waste and dispose of it properly.
*Sharpen the mower blade. A dull mower blade tears grass and creates ragged grown edges.
*Remove weeds sensibly. The best time to do so is right after a rain shower.
