Just over 6 percent of registered voters in Douglas County have cast a ballot in the May Primary Election.
Douglas County Clerk Dan Loomis told News Radio 1240 KQEN that 5,067 ballots had come in as of Wednesday afternoon.
Loomis said that is about a half percent behind the same time in 2018. Loomis noted that the number of voters in the county has grown by over 23.5 percent since the 2016 elections. That’s due to changes in state rules. Under the Oregon Motor Voter Act, voter registration is automatic when a driver’s license is applied for. Residents who do so are automatically registered as a non-affiliated voter unless they choose a political party. The information is retained for new drivers under age 18 until they are old enough to vote.
Ballots are due back to the Douglas County Clerk’s Office by Tuesday May 19th.
