Staff with the Roseburg VA Medical Center has issued a response to a recent video that showed Director Keith Allen and a number of staff dancing close to each other and without masks.
The statement said “the VA realizes the importance of social distancing during this national emergency and will reiterate that to all employees involved”.
The leaked video was first reported by the Oregonian on Saturday. In it, a group of over a dozen people dance to “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond, as Allen held a boombox which was playing the song. One person in the group had a mask on but took it off while the dancing continued.
The statement continued, “this video was made in an administrative, non-clinical area where PPE is not required. All staff who participated were volunteers and had been properly screened, per CDC and VA guidelines. Roseburg VAHCS takes its responsibility to protect Veterans and employees seriously, a fact that’s underscored by the facility’s .3% COVID-19 employee infection rate”.
No further explanation regarding the video was given by Public Affairs Officer Tim Parish.
