Thursday afternoon, Oregon Governor Kate Brown issued a statement following President Trump’s plan to reopen America.
Brown said “we are all eager to begin the process of lifting restrictions, get back to work and return to a more normal life as quickly as possible”.
Brown said she is pleased to see the federal government’s guidance follows a data-driven, science-based approach, similar to Oregon’s framework. Brown said she has asked the Oregon Health Authority and her Medical Advisory Panel to analyze the federal guidance and supplement Oregon’s framework as appropriate to make sure the state is moving forward in the safest and quickest way possible.
Brown said, “in Oregon, we flattened the curve of the outbreak because we issued aggressive social distancing measures early’. She said because sacrifices have been made by Oregonians, the state is now in a position where it can plan to reopen again, following science and data.
Brown said the state is still in need of critical resources from the federal government, including sufficient personal protective equipment and increased testing capacity. Brown said the state has current, large unfulfilled order requests with the federal government for both PPE and testing materials. She said “these are vital components to reopening Oregon and remain necessary to prevent to prevent a resurgence of the disease”.
