A Florence man was jailed following a reported burglary in the Gardiner area on Wednesday.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said around 4:50 p.m. a victim flagged a deputy down and said his residence had just been burglarized. The deputy followed the victim back to his home and saw items that had been staged for the suspects to come back and get. The deputy stayed in the area then another resident called and said the vehicle that had left the victim’s residence earlier had returned.
Deputies contacted two people outside the residence and observed the items in the vehicle that matched the burglary. Both people were detained. One person explained what the pair had done, and the second one admitted to the crimes.
20-year old Damien Detar was initially charged with second degree burglary, two counts of first-degree theft, first degree criminal trespass, third degree criminal mischief, being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, and for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle. After arraignment he was held on $7,500 bail. The second person, a 30-year old woman, was cited and released.
