ONE ESCAPES, ONE CITED AFTER TRAFFIC STOP

One person escaped and one person was cited on multiple charges, during a traffic stop on Tuesday night.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said shortly before 11:00 p.m. a deputy observed an SUV do a burnout on Canyonville Riddle Road as it came into Canyonville. The vehicle turned on Frontage and quickly took off.
The report said the deputy stopped the vehicle at the intersection with Fourth Place. When asking for identification, the driver said he was open carrying a pistol on his right hip. The deputy saw a rifle leaning on the passenger seat next to the passenger seated there. The driver reportedly said there was an AK-47 and a Glock-23 on the passenger side. The report said another passenger was seated in the rear of the vehicle and everyone was asked to get out.
The report said there were 4 bags of marijuana in the front seat which appeared to be set up for distribution. A loaded AK-47 was found leaning against the back seat with a .38 Special revolver under the seat with two rounds in it. A Sig Sauer 9mm and a 20- gauge shotgun was also reportedly found in the vehicle.
The front passenger, identified as 31-year old Anthony Hughes, was not legally allowed to possess firearms and took off running up Fourth Place when the deputy attempted to detain him. A search of the area did not locate him.
All weapons except the shotgun were seized by authorities.
The driver, 23-year old Cedar Higgs, was cited for three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a weapon, interfering with a police officer, unlawful delivery of marijuana, and for third degree escape. The second passenger was not cited.
