A missing man with dementia was found deceased in the North Umpqua River on Wednesday night.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 6:20 p.m. deputies were notified that 82-year old Byung Su Song of Hillsboro, was missing from a home in the 4,000 block of Del Rio Road.
O’Dell said multiple law enforcement agencies along with search and rescue personnel converged on the area and began searching for Song. A REACH Air Medical helicopter stationed at the Roseburg Regional Airport, also assisted with the search. A citizen notification for residents in the area was sent using the reverse 911 system utilized by DCSO.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. Song’s body was found in the river downstream from Hestness Landing in the 3700 block of Del Rio. He was declared deceased at the scene. O’Dell said foul play is not suspected at this time and the Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting a death investigation.
