J.C. Penney’s in the Garden Valley Shopping Center remains closed for now due to the COVID-19 situation.
That follows a national decision late last week to extend the temporary closure of all Penney’s stores nationwide. The release said the company will continue to follow guidance from government officials as it anticipates gradually reopening stores in markets when it is safe to do so.
The release said the company has also made “the difficult decision” to furlough the majority of store hourly associates nationwide.
Jill Soltau, chief executive officer for J.C. Penney’s said they are making “tough, prudent decisions to protect both the safety of our associates and the future of our company”. Soltau said she remains optimistic about the company’s ability to weather this pandemic.
The release said the company’s eCommerce distribution centers will remain open to fulfill online orders and answer customer questions.
The Roseburg store has been shut down since the evening of March 17th as part of a national closure decision.
