Roseburg Public Schools teachers and staff are reconnecting with students and families this week to start providing supplemental learning supports during the COVID-19 school closures.
An RPS release said per the Governor’s executive orders, schools will remain closed until April 28th. The district is meeting requests surrounding meal provision, child care for first responders and health care professionals, and education supports for parents.
The release said the purpose of the supplemental learning materials is to keep children engaged and to assist families with providing structure to their child’s daily routine. Staff will be connecting with students via phone calls or online forums, depending on student’s access to technology. Teachers will also work to determine which students may need assistance with access to the internet and computers.
Superintendent Jared Cordon said “although there are many unknowns right now about how this extended closure will impact student’s educational journeys, we believe that keeping students engaged and learning to the extent possible is vital to their well-being”.
The release said free grab-and-go meals will continue to be served at elementary schools, middle schools and at Roseburg High School. Meals will continue to be delivered via the Lunch Box Express until Tuesday. Beginning Monday, meals are being delivered to neighborhoods via modified school bus routes. Details, bus routes and schedules are posted at: www.roseburg.k12.or.us.
Additional details on the district’s plans during the extended closure are also on the district website.
