The Roseburg Police Department utilized an Emergency Response Team to deal with a domestic assault case on Friday night.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch said just before 9:00 p.m. officers were sent to the area of Southeast Ella and Southeast Court following a report that a woman was screaming and asking for someone to call police. Officers received additional information leading them to believe a female may have been assaulted at a residence on Southeast Ella Street. Eichenbusch said officers approached the residence and located signs of a disturbance, but could not get anyone to come from the door. Witnesses told officers that screaming was heard just prior to their arrival, leading them to believe that people were still inside the residence.
Eichenbusch said officers exhausted all avenues of attempted contact with the residents for a two-hour period, leading to a call out to ERT members. Roseburg Police and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office formed an entry team and breached the front door in an attempt to render aid to anyone who may have been injured. Upon entry, a 51-year old man and a 48-year old woman emerged from the residence.
A subsequent investigation revealed the woman has sustain physical injuries during an alleged assault by the man. He was charged with 4th degree domestic assault and was taken to jail. The name of the suspect was not released by RPD.
