DEFAZIO FACES CHALLENGERS IN BOTH PARTIES

4th District Congressman Peter DeFazio is faces challengers in both parties, as he seeks another term in the job he has held since being elected in 1986.
On the Democratic side, Doyle Canning lives in Eugene and describes herself as a community organizer, mother of two, and a writer. She has no previous government experience. Cassidy Clausen is from Springfield. She is a Skills Trainer for Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare. She listed previous governmental experience as being a volunteer representative on the Lane Transit District transportation committee.
Republican candidates are Nelson Ljih and Alek Skarlatos. Ljih is an engineer and entrepreneur and has worked for Intel Corporation. He is a Eugene resident and did not list any governmental experience.
Alek Skarlatos lives in the Roseburg area. He lists his occupation as being self-employed, working in real estate and public speaking. Skarlatos ran for Douglas County Commissioner in 2018. The former National Guardsman is best known for being one of four people to thwart a terrorist gunman on a train bound for Paris, France in August of 2015. That led to being on Dancing with the Stars, and portraying himself in “The 15:17 to Paris”.
