Tuesday March 10th is the deadline to file as a candidate for the 2020 Primary which will be held on May 19th.
A release from Secretary of State Bev Clarno said candidates can file online or in person at the Elections Office inside the Oregon State Capital.
Clarno said the Primary is only 11 weeks away. April 28th is the last day to register to vote or for a voter to change their party registration.

In legislative races, Gary Leif is running as a Republican for a full term as State Representative in District 2. Roseburg attorney Charles Lee filed as a Democratic candidate on Thursday. In District 1, incumbent David Brock Smith is running in the Republican primary. Democrat Calla Felicity recently filed as well. In District 7, incumbent Cedric Hayden said he will be filing for another term in office sometime Monday. Jerry Samaniego, running as a Democrat, filed last Wednesday.
State Senator Dallas Heard filed for re-election for his District 2 seat in January. He has no opponents at this time.
In Douglas County government, only one candidate has filed for each of three positions so far. Sheriff John Hanlin has filed for another term. Interim Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis, who was appointed in October, has filed for a four-year term which would begin at the start of 2021. On Thursday, Sam Lee filed for Douglas County Treasurer. That’s a position currently held by Richard Filley.
Local candidates can file in the Elections Office at the Douglas County Courthouse.
