An Oregon Health official has shared some additional details related to the new cases of COVID-19 in the state.
Oregon Health Authority Director Dr. Patrick Allen said of the 7 new cases, 5 are in Washington County and 1 is in Marion County, in addition to the Douglas County case. Allen said the individuals whose test results have been announced are recovering at home or getting the care they need at a hospital. Allen said “contact investigations have begun to identify and isolate anyone who may have been in close contract with these new cases”.
Allen said 4 of the 5 new cases in Washington County were contacts of that county’s first 3 cases and have been under monitoring. The fifth new case had no known contact with a confirmed case. That person had also not traveled from a country where the virus is circulating. Therefore, it is being investigated as a community-acquired case.
Allen said the Douglas County case is being investigated as a community-spread case.
Previous presumptive positive tests for COVID-19 included 3 in Washington County, 2 in Jackson County and one each in Klamath, Umatilla, and Marion counties.
Allen said under the emergency powers granted by Governor Brown, OHA will be:
*Finalizing agreements with major hospital systems to expand locations where COVID-19 tests can be conducted safely.
*Convening providers who serve older adults and vulnerable populations to mobilize an aggressive outreach and prevention strategy to protect at-risk people.
*Seeking additional funding to support Oregon’s response efforts.
