Staff with the Douglas County Public Works Department will have an open house Thursday night to discuss the roadway safety rehabilitation project on Carnes Road, between Oregon Highway 42 and Happy Valley Road.
The event will be in the cafeteria at Green Elementary School.
The project will include protected bike lanes and sidewalks, a flashing pedestrian beacon with refuge island at the existing crossing near the school, existing intersection crossing enhancements, storm sewer system improvements, and a new asphalt wearing surface. Its being funded in part through a Safe Routes to School Competitive Infrastructure Grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Work is slated to begin late this spring and to be completed by the end of 2020.
