LAW ENFORCEMENT STAFF RECOGNIZED AT OPTIMIST CLUB BANQUET

Law enforcement staff from four departments were recognized at the Optimist Club 44th annual Respect for Law Banquet on Friday night.
Renee Damas was recognized as the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher of the Year. She was described as always having an “upbeat and positive attitude” in a DCSO release. Damas has worked at DCSO since 2012.
Corporal Kelly Dwight was named the Corrections Deputy of the Year. Dwight has spent five and a half years with the agency, serving in the jail. The release said Dwight is known for “his can-do attitude and leadership abilities”. Sheriff John Hanlin said Dwight is an asset to the agency and the community.
Patrol Deputy of the Year honors was awarded to Deputy Michael Siemans. The release said he was recognized for his determination and investigative skills. He was also applauded for “self-motivated policing and his ability to solve crime”. Siemans has been with DCSO for five and a half years.

Officer Chris Bonebrake was given the Officer of the Year title for the Roseburg Police Department. He has been with the department since July of 2016. Prior to that he worked as a deputy for DCSO, and also served in the U.S. Marine Corp. An RPD release said Bonebrake always comes to work “with a great attitude” and is well liked and respected by all of his supervisors and peers. He is currently a K9 handler on the patrol team and is paired with K9 Axel.
Honors also went to members of police departments in Sutherlin and Winston, and to staff with the Oregon State Police.
