Local groups are continuing their efforts to raise enough funds to renovate the track facility at Glide High School.
That track was built in the 1980s and has been resurfaced every eight to nine years. Now its needs a complete makeover.
One of the fundraising organizers is former Glide student/athlete Heather Barklow. She told News Radio 1240 KQEN that the booster club has raised approximately $300,000 so far, but an additional $50,000 is needed to complete the project. Barklow is working with several others to hold a lap-a-thon on March 15th. The twelve-hour event will begin at 6:00 a.m. with the goal of 200 laps or 50 miles, being reached. Barklow said a handful of track alumni like herself are asking for pledges, either per lap or as flat donations. Some of them have special web pages for the effort.
Barklow said all donations will go directly to the booster club. The goal is to start the renovation on the track this coming summer.
